Flipped Learning Model Dramatically Improves Course Pass Rate for At-Risk Students

Tested flipped learning in one freshman at-risk social studies class, and every student passed the class.
2011-2012 implemented in every grade level
Teacher videotape their classroom lectures and have students watch the videos from homework.
During classroom time teachers work with students on individual assignments and facilitate collaborative learning in small groups.
Approximately 82% of students use their own devices to watch the videos at home.
For students with out devices, they are made available both before and after school in the media center.
Teachers use screen capture software as well as graphic tablets and pen displays to demonstrate concepts.
Results
Test scores increased
Graduation Rates increased
College attendance has increased
Discipline problems have declined in both number and severity

My Comments
Preparation is time consuming for teachers
Students are able to have more one on one time with teachers
Some students are not able to complete required work at home due to environment
Worried about increasing the gab between students with excel academically and those that struggle
Worried about teaching students that didn't complete the required readings at home and not being able monitor students understanding.
Worried about students who are absent and falling behind.
