Barriers in job search skills
No Clear Direction
The Perfect Fit- Believe that only one perfect career exists for each individual
Investigate a variety of options that have features in common.
Fear of Failure- Fear that you won't like the career once you commits to it
Thoroughly researching the job and its characteristics, talking to people who have held the same type of job for several years and spending some time as an observer at the desired place of employment.
Current Obligations- it won't provide the money, he needs to cover his bills
If he feels strongly about pursuing that career, he can create a plan with a set end-date for resolving the obstacle to his preferred career path and use that goal as motivation to stick to his plan.
Lack of Awareness- A lack of awareness about skills, values and interests can cause problems when trying to choose a career.
Career aptitude tests and career counselling can help a person determine the type of careers he should pursue.
Educational Barriers- Certain careers require job seekers to attain specific levels or types of education
Find a lower-level job in the career field of interest. At the same time, pursue the advanced education he needs to make his dream career a reality.
Lack of Confidence
Being an introvert
• Talk to small groups, small meet-up
Getting up the nerve to speak to strangers
Avoid “fancy” questions, Keep the questions logical, contextual and open-ended
Challenge to break in and introduce yourself
Look for groups that complement your career needs, as well as your personality and passions
Exiting a conversation gracefully
Approach the group with a smile and try to make eye contact with someone. Be patient, and when there’s a break in the conversation, introduce yourself
I am not quick with small talk
Smile, stay focused, keep your body language open and maintain conversation in a positive manner
I don’t know how to find groups that I ‘fit’ with
Finding the correct moment to do it and not sounding too harsh
Skipping the CV
Relying Solely on Job Adverts
Relying on Headhunters
Not Following Up
No Networking skill
