States of Matter
are the physical forms in which a substance can exist.
Particle Theory
There are four main ideas in the particle model:
All matter is made up of tiny particles. particle model
The particles of matter are always moving.
The particles have spaces between them.
Adding heat to matter makes the particles move faster.
Liquids
Have definite volume but no shape
particles flow freely
Particles are spaced further apart and have weaker forces of attraction
take the shape of the container
Gas
Low forces of attraction
No fixed volume or shape
high energy causing particles to move freely
Matter is made up of tiny particles called atoms and molecules.

Solids
Particles are arranged close together
Have a set volume
Forces of attraction between particles is strong
