Temperament: An individual’s behavioural style and characteristic emotional response
Child temperament qualities and traits
adaptability
child's responds to changes including intrusion, restrictions and transitions
some adapt swiftly while some adapt very slowly, may take hours/days depending on the child's ability
approach/withdrawal
a child's first responds to a new stimulus

SUGGESTION: ‘Goodness-of-fit’
A model that explain how temperament and environment can produce favourable outcomes and encourage children to adapt interactions even though they display “different temperament “
Involves creating child rearing learning environments that recognise each child’s temperament while also helping child to learn to adapt and function.
For e.g if a child has difficult temperament who cannot manage changes in the environment, ‘goodness-to-fit’ would help to provide child with reminders of the pending change.
SUGGESTION: Several studies have shown that temperament can be shaped by experiences.
However, children hardly change from one extreme to another. E.g A shy child will not change and become very sociable.)
