Charlie may’s experience
Conditions
“Woke up this morning to find the snow pelting down”
He is sleeping and fighting outside and the cold snow is covering the trenches
This can lead to hyperthermia for many soldiers and end up in dying
“The trenches are ankle deep”
Without having a shower once during the whole time they are very unhygienic
Family
“I may never see you or our darling baby again”
He was scared that he will not see his baby again
Or his baby will never see him
He does not want to die
All the soldiers prolly also have a family to go back to so it’s not just him the is sad
Traumatising
“causing us some uneasiness and a few casualties before even we reached the line“
He has endured many of his comrades dying in front of his eyes
This may scar him for his life
It can cause him many nightmares, anxiety and depression later on in life
Rats
“when they started on my face I must own that I slavishly surrendered”
They were very unclean and they went everywhere.
They had lots of diseases
They would spread easy along the soldiers because they touched them
