Parental Involvement
Call home and ask parents/guardian if there are any changes that might influence their academic work/attitude
Send parents copies of student work
set up a parent teacher meeting (can include other teachers) to discuss student's performance and behavior
create an action plan for student to complete work at home or turn in homework
Signs of a Struggling Student
easily frustrated
has trouble staying on task
skips class
takes longer than normal to complete work
argumentative or combative in the classroom
lacks motivation to complete, or even start, assignments
has difficulty remembering concepts
Classroom Inteventions
Monitor student's progress through assessments and daily work
Differentiate work
Place student in small group or with teacher's assistant
Speak to other teachers about student's academic performance
Notice the student's response to multiple topics (to eliminate the possibility of the student struggling with one concept)
Speak to student about progress (maybe it's a home or school situation or the student is just struggling with that concept
