Audiolingual Method, This method makes use of memorization and repetition…
-
This method makes use of memorization and repetition of words, where the teacher reads and the student repeats and must memorize the pronunciation of these words and repeat them.
ROLE OF THE TEACHER:
The teacher leads the class and includes the student in the participation, also observes and corrects their pronunciation.
STUDENT ROLE:
You must actively participate during class, the student is expected to correctly capture the sound of the word and be able to pronounce it in the same way that I hear it.

Historical roots: They started with American linguistics at the beginning of the 20th century, they wanted to document the languages spoken in this country, but since there were no native teachers of the language to provide them with information about their language, they had no choice but to observe it. Another factor was the second world geurra where they needed more US soldiers and they only taught them basic communication in a certain way the soldiers were the first to learn with this method, that is why it was called: "army method"

TODAY
Currently this method is used in a small amount because it is combined with other types of teaching, but it is still necessary.
Fall from popularity
In the late 1950s, this method was criticized by linguists such as Chomsky, Skinner, Wilga Rivers and Philip Smith, where he gave strong evidence that this method was not effective for learning.

ADVANTAGES
• Listening and speaking skills are emphasized and especially the former rigorously developed.
• The method is just as functional and easy to execute in larger groups.
• Correct pronunciation and structure is emphasized and acquired.
• It is grounded on a solid theory of language learning.
DISADVANTAGES
• The behaviorist approach to learning is now discredited. Many scholars have proven its weakness.
• Equal importance is not given to all four skills.
• It is a teacher dominated method.
• It is a mechanical method since it demands pattern practice, drilling, and memorization over functional learning and organic usage.
• The learner is passive role; the learner has little control over their learning.
