What is your opinion about the issue, and what caused you to form that opinion
There should have been better research into Davies' story. the fact that they stuck by his story, days after proof to the contrary was published and had made it rounds to other news outlets.
Overall, both "60 Minutes" and CBS were in the wrong for only issuing a correction and not truly addressing the problem of the blatant lies in the report. The distribution of misinformation is not ok, especially by a leading investigative reporting outlet.
More then one person should should have been brought in to round out the story. Having one person opens you up to the possibility of misinformation and lies, thus making you have to "correct" or completely erase the segment.
Play devils advocate, what opposing view could be expressed

Journalist must walk a tight rope with the way they word things, let alone with a story that had many people fearful.

How could using a balance in research and reporting tactics have made a difference in the outcome of what was reported
It would appear to be as simple has looking into the reports sent to Congress, to at least try and collaborate the story of Davies. This would also possibly point to others that can help build the story, rather then basically one person building the entire story.
