European Refugee Crisis
UDHR or core instruments of HHRR
The Eu fulfilled the Humans rights laws
The respect the Protection from torture and ill-treatment, Right to life, Right to a nationality, Right to leave any country, including one's own, and to return to one's country, Right not to be forcibly returned,
Also the crisis can be linked to the concept of HHRR because the conditions in which the people live in the immigrants camps are very bad conditions. Here you can see how a lot of minors living on the streets, lack of access to clean water, malnutrition making them have almost worst living conditions that where they escaped from.
The Eu didnt fulfilled the Humans rights laws
Right to freedom of movement as they plan to decide where should the refugees be distributed across the EU
Realism
In terms of realism we can see the idea of the idea of “Power is key and everybody acts towards their national interests.” In this crisis we can see this silence every state started with the idea that national interest was the only way that they will approach this crisis. We can see the selfishness attitude from the states and we can say that a crisis like this would not be solved if every state acted on their national interest.
What is the "2015 european refugee crisis"?
The 2015 european refugee crisis was a big problem on how the European Union faced migration of refugee. A lot of people were facing war and poverty in their countries and risk their lives going to the European Union.
Some examples of why people migrate are the war in Syria, the violence in Afghanistan and Iraq, abuses in Eritrea and the povert in Kosovo
International relations & cooperation between states
States from the EU were in need to sacrifice some national interests for the common good, and this is what help to major advances in the migration crisis.
Another challenge was to extend the international cooperation with countries outside of the EU. They satrted working with African countries to try to control the migration from the starting point, and also with countries like Turkey to help them to control their borders in a much secure way.
2016 EU-Turkey agreement deal on refugees
The 2016 EU-Turkey agreement deal on refugees is a deal where the EU would pay 3 billions euros to Turkey to build camps where the immigrants would be allocated and be able to “rebuild” their lives in Turkey. Basically it was a payment done by the EU to reduce the immigration numbers from the east
Sovereignty
Sovereignty is defined as a state’s ability to rule itself. In this crisis it can be argued that the sovereignty of the EU states was affected. When countries were forced to make space on their country for the welcoming of the refugees it affect their sovereignty; their international legitimacy was affected.
Liberalism
As the crisis developed we can see the states take a liberalism way of relating science they started worrying about the common interest and not the national interest. States started working together for the solving of the crisis and developed the international relations in a much cooperative way. We can see here the essence of neoliberalism: states can benefit significantly from cooperation if they trust one another to live up to their agreements.
