BICS - Basic Interpersonal Communication Skills (day-to-day language needed to interact socially with other people)
CALP - Cognitive Academic Language Proficiency (Refers to formal academic learning/ academic language, as opposed to BICS)
TELPAS - Texas English Language Proficiency Assess (Assesses the progress that ELL students make in learning the English language. Multi-leveled)
LEP- Limited English Proficiency (Refers to a student who is is not fluent in the English language, often because it is not their native tongue)

ARD
IEP - Individualized Education Program (Written document that's developed for each public school child who is eligible for special education, created through a team effort and reviewed regularly
Accommodations and Modifications
504 - Plan developed to ensure that a child who has a disability identified under the law and is attending an elementary/ secondary educational institution received accommodations that will ensure academic success and access to the learning environment
FAPE - Free Appropriate Public Education
RTI - Response to Intervention (multi-tiered approach to the early identification and support of students with learning and behavior needs. Begins with a screening of students in gen. education classrooms. Struggling students are then identified and are provided with interventions at increasing levels, progress monitored regularly
IDEA- Individuals with Disabilities Education Act
