For example:
- Child doesn't DEMAND for attention but WANTS it.
- Doesn't make a fuss but says his needs in a quiet way
- Child's message for attention can be communicated by just a glance
- child is either always distracted or focused in the things they do
What can caregivers do?
- Check in from time to time
- give them special attention
- their needs are also as great as other children's of different temperament
Fearful
Traits
It does not mean child hates it, just that it takes them a little longer to warm up to it
For example:
- The child uses the caregiver as a secure base when a new activity/environment is introduced
- checks things out from a safe distance
What can caregivers do?
- Take it slow & don't push them
- let them check things out from a safe distance before slowly drawing them in
Feisty
Traits
- active
- intense
- distractable
- sensitive
- irregular
- moody
For example:
- projects their feelings like unhappiness or joy
- lets everyone know what they are feeling
- full of zest
- can get out of hand ( may injure other children unintentionally)
- it is easy for the child to get more intense in a new activity at a faster pace
What can caregivers do?
- give them empathy before redirecting their attention to other things
- help to move on to another activity / toy when current activity is being disrupted/removed
