- - - - Wave Speed
        
        The speed of a wave means the same thing as a speed of a car or of a person. The speed represents how quickly a wave can get from one place to another. The speed of a wave = the wavelength of the wave divided by the period of the wave.
- - - - Frequency and Period
        
        Frequency and period are reciprocals of each other. The characteristics of a wave that is measured in meters in wavelength. The characteristics of a wave that is measured in seconds is period.
        
        Wavelength and Amplitude
        
        Wavelength: The distance between consecutive corresponding points.
        Unit: Meter
        Amplitude: The distance from the middle of the wave to the top of a crest or to the bottom of a trough. The energy of a Mechanical Wave is directly proportional to its amplitude.
- - - - The Electromagnetic Spectrum
        
        Electromagnetic Radiation: Waves spread across a spectrum from Gamma Rays, X-Rays, Ultraviolet Rays, Visible Light, Infrared Waves, Microwaves and Radio Waves. Spectrum; The spectrum is a foundation of the information age end of our modern world such as Radios, Remotes, Mobile Phones, TVs, Microwaves and X-Ray Machines.
- - - - Properties of a Ripple Tank
        
        Wavelength- The distance between 2 crests.
        Displacement- How far a point on the wave is from the middle line.
        Superposition- If one wave is a crest and the other wave is at a trough. Then you subtract the trough deep from the crests height.
        Ripple Tank- You can study the properties of waves by using a Ripple Tank.
        
        Definitions:
        Reflection: If a wave hits a barrier and bounces off you draw a line at a right angle to the barrier the reflected wave has the same angle to the line as the incoming wave.
        Refraction: Waves change their wavelength if they travel from one medium to another in which their speed is different. For example, when traveling into shallower water, waves have a smaller wavelength as they slow down.
        Diffraction: When waves hit the edge of a barrier or pass through a gap in the barrier, they bend a little and spread into the region beyond the barrier.
