People would even believe the lies and spread fast, so why then report the truth?
Everyone want to be the first to report the news. Therefore, all this is expected.
All that was needed was reporting. If they copied from the wrong source, then it was acceptable.

These were selling news and the need to be the first to report resulted to the wrong content all over the news.
