Osteoma occurs in the second to fifth decade of life, and males are affected more often than females. The growths may occur in the maxilla and mandible, the skull, and sinuses. The osteoma is a benign tumor consisting of mature compact or cortical bone. It may be classified as either periosteal, occurring on the surface of the bone, or endosteal, occurring in the bone.
