Definition: Assessments that are formed in a way to assess students and receive feedback that is used for modifying and adjusting instruction. These assessments are usually low stakes
3 Questions: students ask three questions about the topic and rank these questions by its importance.
Questioning: Teachers ask questions during a lesson at different levels by challenging thinking and evaluating students.
Benchmark/Interim

Definition: These types of assessments are used to see where students are in their learning and determine if they are on track with their learning to do well on future assessments
STAAR: The state of Texas assessment that is a collection of standardized tests that primary and secondary students must pass in order to progress to the next grad level and graduate high school.
Renaissance: pre-K--12 assessment and software that adapt to the right difficulty level throughout the test to provide a highly accurate prediction of a student's ability in early literacy, reading, and math.
Summative
Definition: Assessments used to evaluate student learning at the end of a unit, are usually high stakes tests, commonly given at the end of a unit, middle of the year, and end of the year.
Book Report: An effective way to determine if students can apply literary analysis and reading comprehension to a book of their choice.
Final Exams: Exams can vary in their question variety, range of skills, and complexity. They effectively inform a teacher whether their instruction was successful or not during the year.

Performance
Definition: A performance assessment requires students to perform a task rather than regular assessments or answering questions.
Debates: A debate in the classroom is one form of performance-based learning that teaches students about varied viewpoints and opinions. Skills associated with debate include research, media and argument literacy, reading comprehension, evidence evaluation, public speaking, and civic skills.
Portfolios: A portfolio assessment demonstrates learning over the course of time rather than what a student knows a particular day. A portfolio assessment provides an opportunity for a student to reflect on their learning, to self assess, and to formulate a deeper understanding of the concepts they are learning beyond a simple surface explanation
Diagnostic
Definition: Assessments that are used as forms of pre-assessments to determine a students strengths, weaknesses, and prior misconceptions. This information/data assists teachers to plan instruction to meet students needs
Running Records: A way to assess students reading level whether their on the same level or have made growth.
KWL Chart:: a chart that organizes what students know about a topic, want to know, and have learned. This is a good way to assess prior knowledge and what they've learned.
