ASSESSMENTS
H.O.T. Questions
Opening:
- What are the differences between Earth's rotation and revolution?
- Compare and Contrast the Earth and the Moon.
Guiding:
- What mnemonic device could you create that can be used to remember the order of the planets?
- Explain the effect of the planet's location on its revolution.
Closing:
- How could you create your own model of the Solar System?
- Which planet would you choose to live on? Defend your answer.
Summative
Defintion: Assessments done at the end of the year or unit in order to grade students on their knowledge. This type of assessment does not allow the teacher to adjust their instructional methods.
Example: End of unit exam over topics in each content area (Fractions, Multiplication, etc).

Interim/Benchmark
Definition: Formal testing done periodically throughout the school year to test a student's current academic level. Limited amount of student feedback.

Formative
Definition: The process that the teacher takes to gather information of student learning throughout the learning process. This provides feedback to the teacher in which they can adjust instruction to meet the needs of the students.

Example: Exit ticket at the end of a lesson in which the student is asked to give an example from the lesson (an example of a nonrenewable resource).
Performance
Definition: Students perform tasks to show their knowledge. Students may produce authentic work instead of answering pre-prepared questions.
