reproductive system
male reproductive system
male sex gland
it secretes a fluid containing nutrients and enzymes. these nutrients and enzymes provides sperms the energy to move
urethra
it is a tube which leads to the outside of the body through the penis. During sexual intercourse, sperm pass through testes into sperm duct then into urethra. the sperm pass to the outside of the body through urethra
-
-
-
penis
male reproductive organ which becomes erect when sexually excited. sperms are ejaculated through the penis during sexual intercourse
-
-
birth control methods
birth control methods are used to prevent pregnancies and the control methods can be permanent or temporary
Temporary methods
-
-
-
spermicide
it is a chemical that kills or blocks sperms from entering the uterus. hence fertlisation does not occur. it is inserted into the vagina and not reliable when used on its own so it is usually used with a condom or diaphragm
-
diaphragm
it is a dome shaped rubber cap inserted into the vagina and placed over the cervix. it is impermeable and prevents sperms from entering the uterus
-
condom
it is a thin rubber used to cover the erect penis before sexual intercourse. thee condom is impermeable to sperms and hence sperms cannot enter the uterus. it is also impermeable to bacteria and virus and thus protects the user from STIs
-
-
contraceptive pill
these are pills that contain female sex hormones which prevent ovulation, since the pills disrupts the function of the ovary. However the woman may suffer from some side effects
-
permanent methods
these birth control methods work permanently to prevent fertilisation by disrupting the functions of parts of the reproductive system.
vasectomy
this involves the tying and cutting part of the sperm ducts during surgery. This disrupts the function of the sperm duct. sperms would not be ejaculated during sexual intercourse and fertilisation will not occur.
-
tubal ligation
this involves the tying and cutting of both oviducts during surgery. this disrupts the function of the oviduct and prevents the egg from meeting the sperms and thus no fertilisation will occur

After sexual intercourse
Fertilisation
it is the fusion of the nucleus of the male reproductive cell (sperm) and the nucleus of the female reproductive cell (egg)
- a mature egg is released at ovary. sperm is released at testis
- fertilisation occurs at fallopian tube (if egg is present in the fallopian tube). During fertilisation, the sperm and egg fuses to form a fertilised eggg. the fertilised egg then devided repeatedly to form the embryo
- implantation of the now fertlised egg occurs at the uterus wall. the woman is now pregnant.
- during pregnancy, the embryo develops into a foetus
-

-
heredity
it is a process by which characteristics are passed down genetically from one generation to the next
The children inherit different combinations of physical characteristics from their parents. Hence, each child in the family has their own unique looks.
the children will then grow into adults, and pass their genes down to their own children when they reproduce.

-
increase in fat tissues at breasts, hips and pubic region
