Scientists are now trying to develope vaccines. But is the whole scientific medical system not paying enough attention to infectious diseases caused by viruses? Since 2000, many diseases like SARS, H5N1, H7N9, MERS, COVID-19, etc. appeared like warnings to all human beings. The world is now highly developed in both cultural side and current technology side, but very primitive viruses can still be devastating.
More importantly, the emergence of these viruses may be a "product" of the highly developed human civilization. As humans destroy more and more nature environments, global warming is already causing so many problems. It has been reported that the ancient viruses which exists in glaciers are unknown and they may have huge impacts on human world. But it is obvious that the medical systems and scientific systems are not ready for that to come. Much of that burden will fall on scientists to study the origin and evolution of various microorganisms, to study the transmission laws and mathematical models of human infectious diseases, to establish more accurate disease warning and tracking systems, to develop drugs, to prepare vaccines, to study the basic biological mechanisms of diseases.
In this highly technological world, should we also put more attention on the natural environment which is necessary for every individual to survive?
As the natural environment keeps being polluted, more and more virus will be found and may also cause dramatic changes to the world, studying virus can help can to prevent the next pandemic.
