What is a constitution ?
It is a set of rules and regulations that define the organizations , powers , and function of the rights and duties of the citizens
the constituent assembly
the constitution of India was framed by the constituent assembly
Dr. Rajendra Prasad was the chair man
the first meet was held on 9th December 1946
It was passed by the constituent assembly on 26th November 1949
It came into effect on 26th January 1950
Celebrated as Republic Day
What is The Preamble ?
An intro to the constitution
helps understand the vision and aspiration of the framers and the constitution
begins with : 'WE THE PEOPLE OF INDIA ...'
that means, the people of India are the source of the constitution
The authority of the government of India is derived from the people
The Nature of the State ( INDIA )
Sovereign : India is an independent country free from foreign rule
Socialist : involves fair destribution of wealth
Secular : does not have an official or state religion and people can practice their own religion.
Democratic : people can elect a government of their choice and govern a country
Republic : the head is an elected official , not a monarch or a dictator
Objectives
Justice : all are equal in the eyes of law.
Liberty : citizens shall enjoy certain fundamental rights such as freedom of speech, expression and religion
Equality : it means that there will be no discrimination of anybody
Fraternity : implies a spirit of brotherhood and oneness among different sections of the society.
