In order to have enough energy out to affect your body composition, your activity needs to include both cardiorespiratory endurance and resistance training for muscular strength.
Cardiorespiratory endurance activities cause your body to increase its demand for oxygen. The result is that your body burns calories at a much faster rate.
Resistance training builds muscle. The more muscle your body has, the faster it burns calories.
The FITT Principle
It is important to apply the FITT Principle for cardiorespiratory endurance and muscular strength when you are working to maintain or improve your body composition.
The FITT Principle is a guideline in which each letter stands for a variable for determining the correct amount of physical activity:
