BCP DRP
BCM
Need of BCM
Business Contingency- Event with potential to disrupt computer operations leads to disrupting critical mission and funtions.
BCP Process- Designed to reduce risk to an enterprise and assure continuity of minimum level of services neccesary for critical operations.
-
BCM Policy Objective
- Critical services identified.
2.develop plan to ensure continuity.
3.invocation of incident mangement and BC plans
4.IMP testing and updation as required.
- Planning and mangt. responsiblity assigned to senior member
-
BCP- creation and validation of logistical plan to recover and restore critical funtions within time
BCP Manual
-
BCM framework
- Proactively improve enterprise resilience against disruption.
- Provides rehearsed method of restoring critical activites
3. Protect brand and reputation.
It is a documented description of action to be taken, resources to be used and procedure to be followed before during and after disaster
-
Life cycle
- Risk Assessment.
- Determine recovery alternative.
- plan implementation.
4.recovery plan validation
Objective
-
Identify critical lines of business, continue critical operations, minimize damage and loss
-
-
Developing BCP
Methodology
-
-
Focusing on impact minimization, prevention of disaster and recovery
Phases
-
-
-
-
-
-
Vulnerability Assessment
Security Assessment of computing and communication eg. Physical security, backup, system development, database security, software security
-

-
analysis, recommend, purchase software

Types of Plans
Emergency plan- Actions need to be taken immediately when diaster occurs
Situations need to be identified for evoking plan. Four aspects are-
- Who is to be notified immediately.
- show actoins to be taken.
3.evacuation procedures specified
- Return procedures.
Backup Plan It specify type of backup, frequency, procedures, location of backup resources, site where these resources can be assembled.
Incremental backup- captures files that are created since last backup, regardless of backup type.
Advantage- Faster backup, efficient use of storage space
Disadvantage- Restores are slower, and complicated.
Mirror backup- A mirror of source being backup. when files deletes than eventually file in mirror backup also deletes.
Advantage- clean and does not contain old files.
Full backup- Captures all files
Every backup generation contains every file.
Advantage- fast restoration and easy to manage, easy to restore diff. versions.
Disadvantage- time consuming, more storage space
Differential Backup- Stores file since last full backup
Advantage- Faster tha full backup, efficient use of storage, faster restores than incremental backup.
Disadvantage- slower than incremental, less efficient use of storage than incremental, restores are slower than full backup.
-
Recovery Plan- It set out procedures for full IS capabilities restoration. For that, recovery committee identified and set their responsibility.
Test Plan- find deficienies in emergency, backup, recovery plans.
-
Audit of BCP/DRP
Audit Steps
- Determine methodology of DRP/ BCP
2.Determine if info. backup procedures are sufficient.
3.Determine if test plan exist
4.Determin if resources made available to maintain BCP.
5.Determine if copies are stored in off-site location
- Obtain and review existing BCP/DRP
7.Obtain and review the existing BIA
- Determine if plan dated each time after revision
Determine if plan updated in 12 months
