CONTEXT 3 "MULTIFUNCTIONAL LIVING"
POSSIBLE SOLUTION
Some possible solutions i have come up with.....
Coffe table that has a hidden compartment that stores + becomes a desk top
Desk organiser that can hold many things+charge+store drinks
Chair with a book shelf underneath
Varying sizes of stall that store inside of each other to decrease storing size
Table top standing desk, organiser stored undeneath
THE PROBLEM TO SOLVE
I have researched my context thoroughly and found that there is a problem in the multifunctional living area
Nearly all of the multifunctional furniture or multifunctional items are very expensive. Also many are extremely large and hard to transport. For example, if you were to buy a multifunctional side piece right now, you would have to pay up to £1,980 just for a side piece. As well as this to buy a coffee table with multifunctional functionality it would cost £500
As well as this with the current situation involving the COVID-19 pandemic, many families and businesses are having to work from home. Meaning that they will have to create a whole new "office at home" in a sense. This is where multifunctional furniture comes in hugely, many people would love to have a coffee table which then switches to a whole working area
The key area that I am going focus on is making sure I can make a product that is cheap but still a very high quality
For example, making sure i keep in line with the current market and including....
High quality materials
Modern design
Reasonable price point
Versatile in its ability to adapt to many situations
Easy to move, transport
Fits into the modern home
Fredom of designing your home's furniture
Elegant furniture solution
EVIDENCE
There is evidence of this after surveying 10 people, I showed them some pictures of multifunctional furniture. They said that they would all love to have some of the pieces in their home, however, after showing the price of the furniture sadly all of them but 1 said they would not be happy to pay that price and simply couldn't afford it.
This shows there is a serious issue with the market, they are designing amazing pieces but none are selling due to the price point
Finally, many of the products are being made in factories abroad in China and Pakistan, meaning many of the companies are having to charge extra for their products as they need to include the shipping. I would make sure I was using local materials to reduce this cost.
