GEOGRAPHY NOTES TWO :confetti_ball:
SPIT :sunrise_over_mountains:
spits are formed where the prevailing wind blows at an angle to the coastline, resulting in long-shore drift
A spit is an extended stretch of beach material that projects out to sea and is joined to the mainland at the end
WAVECUT PLATFORMS :first_quarter_moon_with_face:
Wave cut platforms (rock platforms), cliff and wave cut notch
Cliffs are shaped through erosion and weathering
Soft rock erodes quickly and forms gentle sloping cliffs, whereas hard rock is more resistant and forms steep cliffs
A wave-cut platform is a wide gently-sloping surface found at the foot of a cliff
costal landforms craeted by erosion
HEADLAND :paperclip: AND BAYS :beach_with_umbrella:
Headlands and bays result from coastlines that formed of alternate sections of hard and soft rock
The areas of soft rock are more easily and quickly eroded whereas the harder rock is more resistant to processes of weathering and erosion
Where harder rock is present, headlands occur and where softer rock is present, headlands occur and where softer rock is being eroded, bays are formed
The processes of erosion that take part in this can be hydraulic action attrition and different types of weathering
Headlands and Bays alternative soft and hard rock sections
STACKS :mountain:
The cave becomes larger and eventually breaks through the headland o form an arch
The base of the arch continually becomes wider through further erosion, until it’s roof becomes too heavy and collapse into the sea. This leaves a stack ( an isolated column of rock)
As the waves continue to grind away at the crack, it begins to open up to form a cave
The stack is undercut at the base until it collapses to form a stump
are widened in the headland through the erosional process of hydraulic action and abrasion

TOMBOLO
A Tombolo Is a deposition landform in which island is attached to the mainland by a narrow piece of lands such as a spit or bar
