A Level Design Brief Choices :
Issues with COVID-19
Sanitation in public spaces
General Door Handles
Shops
Baskets and Trollies
Items that people may of picked up and put back
Screen Sanitation of Self Serve Checkouts
Public Bottles of Hand Sanitiser Still Risk Infection with People Pushing the Nozzle
Essential Travel and Social Distancing
Not Everyone Follows the rules of Social Distancing
Crowded Spaces Make it Hard to Socially Distance
Schools
Younger Children wouldn't Understand the Importance of Social Distancing and Proper Hygeine and Sanitation.
Sufficient PPE for all Staff Members
There may not be Enough Space for all Children so be Socially Distanced in the Same Classroom
Working From Home
Distractions my reduce productivity
Finding Space at Home
Some people, like myself, dont have a study room so the dining room table is taken up with monitors and to clear that up for a meal is a complex process with screens and cables everywhere with no perminant place to store them.
Not all chairs meet office specification so more back problems may occour.
Disruptions by Covid-19
Shop Sanitation
Cleaning Trolleys
A feel like an automatic car wash concept could me miniaturised and implemented into shopping trolleys using disinfectant and strong ultraviolet rays in a closed environment that would be inaccessible to customers or staff members. A system like this would be a major improvement to the
Returning Unwanted Items
There is no quarantine on unwanted items. Often food items are just dumped on shelves however it would most likely go past its use by date after a 2 week quarantine. So shops would have to adopt a system where customers only touch items that they indent on purchasing.
Helping the Hospitals
Storage of Hospital Beds
Hospital bed are pretty large and storing them in the most space efficient way possible is really difficult with the size, weight and general immobility of the beds. If they are to be stored then they either take up a whole room that isn't being used and sometimes making their way out, and overflowing into the corridors making them harder to navigate, and if you yourself are pushing a bed around then its going to totally block off the corridor which in an emergency environment is the opposite of what you need.
Tap Contamination
Taps in a hospital are extremely important and they must uphold exceptionally hygienic standards. as you turn on a tap with dirty hands to clean them and you then use your clean hands to turn off a dirty tap, therefore recontaminating your hands, undoing the washing possess. so something to help turn off the tap would be useful and it would be something you could clean and keep clean.
Working from home
Unsuitable Working Conditions
When working in an office environment there are certain regulations that the workplace must conform to. These regulations can't be enforced in a home place environment. This is where strain and injury can take place.
Untidiness and Disorganisation
Returning From a Trip Out
Shoes
Some shoe storage solutions are a bit unconventional, they either don't store many shoes or take up too much space. Some houses don't have the widest hallways so it would be a bit inconvenient.
Coats
Again, taking up space is a big downside to coat racks and again it is a choice of storage or space, you have to sacrifice one for the other. Also hooks that just hang on a wall can get in the way and are difficult to remove and move without damaging paint.
If it is a wet day then coats will obviously get wet and all the water would be left to drip onto other coats that may be dry, or drip onto the wall ruining any decorations that you put up like paint or wallpaper.
The time it takes to remove any footwear or outerwear could delay any other people trying to enter causing a traffic jam in the door frame if it isn't wide enough.
General Tidiness
Clothes Storage
Having lost of clothes could be difficult to store. While having vertical standing wardrobes may not be the most efficient use of space and having drawers make it difficult to access clothes that are close to the bottom.
It could be quite a process when cleaning clothes so having a short cycle for the clothes to follow would be useful
Books / DVD / CD's
Not all books are the same size so can all be stored easily
Some are too large to fir in some basic shelving solutions so would have to be stored horizontally. This would then look untidy and would give a cluttered aesthetic.
Even though all DVD boxes are the same size, there is still the common problem of the discs being in the incorrect boxes so it becomes a hunt when you sit down to watch a specific film. This issue could also apply to the likes of CD's. Also there may not be sufficient space to store more than a handful of boxes in the car at one time, restricting the diversity you can have.
Workplace Injuries
Common Injuries
Hit by Falling Objects
Again this would mainly effect construction workers and any other profession would take place in a building that is fully intact. Hard hats are a basic form of protection and would protect from small bits of falling rubble however when it comes to larger objects they may only make things worse. A high impact absorbing yet light weight hat would provide better protection then a small vacuum formed plastic shell.
Cuts and Lacerations
I would imagine this would most likely take place in the food industry where knives more mostly used. Certain gloves are able to protect from knife cuts however they can be quite big and then wouldn't allow proper knife control or proper grip of other appliances or food.
Muscle Strain
This could be caused on a production line to workers who are doing a repetitive action all day every day. Also office workers without proper seating may gain a back injury over time making later life more difficult.
Persistent Loud Noise Exposure
This would mainly effect Dj's as they would be listening to loud music most of the time but it could also effect construction workers with their power tools. Ear defenders to exist however they may not be as effective as they need to be.
Slips, Trips and Falls
This could happen anywhere with mainly liquid. in places that know its a hazard like kitchens and swimming pools have derange systems in place however they may not be the most effective if the water isn't near to the drain and having slanted floors for gravity to clear it up may not be the best solution. There are some motorways that have small pours that follow a miniature drainage system that lead onto a hidden sewage system so that water doesn't build up on the roads and water doesn't reflect sunlight blinding drivers and if the occasional drain gets clogged with leaves causing a blockage and subsequent puddle. So something like that could be useful so quickly absorb liquids preventing any slips and falls.
