        method of transmission: direct contact with virus and compromised mucous membranes
        characteristics: extensive intraoral lesions that are frequently traumatized; cauliflower-like appearance
        dental implications: prevent transmission of virus; more common in immunosuppressed,
        tx/prognosis: remove lesions; risk for development of carcinomas
    - - etiology: HPVs 13 and 13
        method of transmission: surface contact with virus through break in mucosal barrier
        characteristics: focal epithelial hyperplasia; pink-to-whitish somewhat translucent surface that is slightly cauliflower-like; soft on palpation; may be more generalized within oral cavity than other forms of HPV
        dental implications: none
        tx/prognosis: not always necessary; excision
