Red and blue lesions
Pyogenic granuloma
Etiology: benign solitary vascular growths that are inflammatory lesions producing exuberant tissue responses to trauma or local irritation
-
Characteristics: Hyperplastic granulation tissue and a large number of capillaries caused the lesion to have its characteristic red color the lesions occur in soft tissue areas such as the gingiva
Dental implications: excised completely so that the lesion does not or reoccurs since recurrence is a factor with lesions. These lesions occur during pregnancy related to hormonal changes
Treatment and prognosis: When the lesion occurs during pregnancy the growth often subsides after delivery when hormones are at a constant reduced level if the growth does not subside it can be surgically removed warm salt water rinses are helpful in healing the tissues
-
Petechiae
-
Method of transmission: the lesions that are identified as petechiae are not contagious and not transmitted to others
Characteristics: they do not Blanche and may be distinguished from the venous tight lesions easily using diascopy. Pooled blood under skin surface
Dental implications: identification of the disease and dyscrasis is important in seeking medical treatment for the patient. Those patients under care for blood diseases may need special precautions when dental treatment is necessary
Treatment and prognosis. Treating the underlying cause or moving the source of trauma is needed to stop the development. The prognosis depends upon the cause of the lesion.
Lichen planus
-
-
Characteristics: wickham striae White lacy pattern that resembles the lichen moss that is often seen on the rocks
Dental implications: establishing a home regimen that works for the individual patient is important. Professional scaling and processes are essential in limiting the frequency of lesions. Home care products that caused minimal abrasion and have low amounts of flavoring agents are best maintenance appointment at regular intervals with a little disruption to the tissue as possible are important for patients with this disease. Air polishers are not recommended and hand scaling with hand instruments is necessary
Treatment and prognosis: medications can be prescribed these corticosteroid medications have been found effective in treatment.
-
Candidiasis
-
Method of transmission: candidiasis is not transmitted to another individual unless that person is susceptible. HIV and AIDS patients are especially vulnerable to the organism.
Characteristics: the white cheesy pseudomembranes associated with the student membrane is tight can be wiped away to expose in erythematic , raw, denuded area
Dental implications: calm and dental manifestations related to Cana diocese include xerostomia and poor oral hygiene. Optimal treatment emphasizes home care and compliance with procedures focused on threatening existing Canadea to ensure that the patient is not reinfected
-
Erythroplakia
Etiology: tobacco and alcohol use, dietary deficiencies and lifestyle factors may also be responsible in some cases
-
Characteristics: deep, velvety red tissue is a distinguishing characteristic of this lesion
Dental implications: Should be assessed for cancer cells via biopsy this lesion should be guarded watch carefully or biopsied
Treatment and prognosis: treatment depends upon the histologic diagnosis any dysplastic areas are excised depending upon the site, Type ,Treatment and prognosis treatment depends upon the histologic diagnosis any dysplastic areas are excised depending upon the site, tight, and results of the lesion biopsy
Varicosity
Etiology: abnormally dilated and tortuous vein that is acquired are found under the tongue and sometimes are highly visible in older adults. The varicosities is thought to be a developmental abnormality and not associated with systemic disease states
-
Characteristics: the blood supply is disrupted by compression and resumes with release. A thrombus may be apparent in some cases and will seem firm when palpated
Treatment and prognosis: No treatment unless it occurs in areas such as Lip or buccal mucosa and is of concern cosmetically to the patient
Dental implications there are no specific dental implication other than the appearance of the Varicosity
Congenital hemangioma
Etiology: benign proliferation of blood vessels, found in infancy and childhood. It consist of benign neoplasm’s composed of capillaries and venules
-
Characteristic: Blanche with pressure, allowing the practitioner to differentiate the vascular lesions from hematomas through diascopy
-
Treatment and prognosis: most require no treatment occasionally laser treatment and sclerosing solution is recommended prognosis is excellent
-
-
Lymphangioma
This lesion consist of lymphatic vessels and vary in size and location lymphangiomas are found on the tongue, buccal mucosa, and floor of the mouth with the tongue being the most common site
