Six fundamental things a city needs to get right
Not too chaotic; Not too ordered
In cities, order is really important
Order means balance, symmetry and repetition
As humans, this is one of the things we look at the most
When it's a mess, it seems like no one is in charge
Orientation and Mystery
Something that attracts a lot is being able to walk and see back streets and beautiful hidden alleys
We are attracted by the feeling of mystery and containment that these streets offer
It can make you feel homely, intimate and relaxed
Visible life
Generally people want live streets, seeing streets full of people and activity, it's something that attracts
More and more, in modern cities,
we have hidden life
What is quite attractive is to feel connected with others
Make it local
We like that there are unique places, we do not expect to go to a place that it could be the same anywhere
That is why each city must find an architectural style that reflects the particularity of its location.
We are concerned about opinions about beauty, that's why sometimes we decide not to take risks and not show our own style
Scale
We've allowed our cities to be hijacked by aggressive business interests
Importance on the streets are not given to places like churches, cathedrals or museums because of the big companies
These same companies have taken over air rights
Which means they are the ones who determined what you can see from your window
Compact
Compactness is beneficial for order, the environment and organization
That is why we need compact and well-ordered cities, with many squares and public spaces
Squares are very important in this section, but the construction of them is falling
It is great to have the balanced and moderate influence of living close to other people
