Hairy Leukoplakia
Etiology:
- infection with Epstein-Barr virus secondary to immunosuppression; HIV
Method of Transmission:
Characteristics:
- whitish plaques that don't rub off; lateral borders of tongue; vertical, raised ridges or irregular flattened lesions
Dental Implications:
- important to notice bc it is a relatively accurate predictor of rapidly progressing HIV
Treatment & Prognosis:
Parulis
swelling of gingiva caused by a draining sinus tract from periodontal/pulpal infection; purulent exudate

Etiology:
- feature of normal development; sebaceous glands found in oral mucosa
Method of Transmission:
Characteristics:

Lichen Planus
Etiology:
- chronic immune-mediated mucocutaneous disorder with damage to surface epithelium
Method of Transmission:
Characteristics:
- white or red plaque lesions, ulcers; Wickham striae bilaterally on buccal mucosa and possibly on gingiva
Dental Implications:
- easily confused with other pathologic conditions; careful monitoring
Treatment & Prognosis:
- no tx required unless erosive and symptomatic
