Slight swelling continuous to third trimester
BLess circulation --> fluid retention
Hormonal Changes
Estrogen - Breast size increases
Preterm Premature Rupture Of Membrane
Water breakage / amniotic fluid leakage
The membrane protects baby from bacteria
once, water break happens - baby may get infections
If there are signs of infection - labour may be induced
Bleeding
Miscarriage is less common in 2nd trimester - but can happen
Early labour may be a cause for bleeding
Placenta separating from uterus - placenta abruption
Mother's blood group - Rh Negative
Get immunoglobulin shot
To avoid antibody attacking the fetus if it is Rh Positive blood
Preterm labour
If it occurs before 38 weeks
Symptoms - very subtle
Risk factors - previous preterm labour / extra amniotic fluid / twin or multiple pregnancy
Major symptoms - Fluid leakage / cramps / Vaginal Bleeding / lower back pain
Doctors give medications / steroids to help develop baby's lungs
Cervical Incompetance
Uncommon Condition
Cervix can not withstand the pressure of the growing uterus
so cervix becomes thin
Risk factors - Previous cases of cervical tear
When cervix becomes weak, membrane ruptures - premature delivery may happen
Not many probable symptoms other than vaginal discharge
Preeclampsia
Dangerous complication - for mother and baby
Caused by high blood pressure
Rapid swelling in the entire body
Affects the placenta
High BP and High protien in the urine are key symptoms
Can be managed with medicines - based on risk factor - early delivery or baby growing with high BP symptoms
Digestive Issues - Constipation / Gas / Heartburn
Due to influx of hormones - digestive
muscles get relaxed
Constipation - common - 3 bowels per week
Constipation - due to Iron supplement
Treat constipation / gas / heartburn by dietary changes
