THE ROLE OF THE SUBJECT
SUBJECT AND CONCORDANCE
Grammatical concordance is the agreement of the grammatical accidents of the words that are related to each other within a sentence, governing each other
-
If the nuclei of a compound subject represent different grammatical persons, for agreement the first person is preferred to the second, and the latter to the third.
If the nucleus of the subject is a collective noun followed by a complement whose term is in the plural, the verb may agree either singularly with the collective nucleus, or in the plural with the complement term..
When in a compound subject, one of its nuclei sums them up or contains them significantly to all the others, the verb agrees singularly with said nucleus
.
When the singular nuclei of a compound subject are united by the coordinators NI and O, it is frequent and possible to use the verb already singular, already plural
When the nuclei of a compound subject are neutral forms, the verb is used in the singular
