some definitions
-
metals and non-metals
About the 80% of the Periodic Table are metals. In te PT we can si how they are divided by a zig-zag.
-
periods
It tells you the number of the electron shells in the atoms. So in the element of period 2 the atom have 2 electron shells, in the 3, 3 and so on...
Artificial elements
Elements that are created in a laboratory. Located in the lowest block. From neptunium to lawrencium.
patterns and trends
If you know where an element is you can use the trends to predict its behaviour, ex: group 1 are more reactive and in group 7 are less reactive. There is another trend : a change from metal to non metal.
The transition elements
Are the block in the middle of the Periodic Table. They are all metals, including silver, iron, copper.
Physical properties
-
Malleable, can be hammered in different shapes.
-
-
-
Chemical properties
They show no clear trend in reactivity, unlike the group 1 metals.
they are less reactive than other metals, like group 1
Example: copper and nickel don't react with water, but sodium yes.
-
-
They can form more than 1 compound with another metal. This is because of their variable valency. Example: copper1 oxide, Cu2O
-
Uses
Used in structures such as bridges, buildings and cars. The most used is iron.

Groups
Group 7: the halogens
A group of non-metal elements, it includes fluorine, chlorine, nrommie and indie. These are actually called the halogens.
it forms colored gasses , fluorine is pale yellow gas and chlorine is a green gas. Brommie forms a red vapor, and iodine a purple vapor. These are poisonous

Is a way of classifying elements. It shows them in order of their proton number. When it is arranged by proton numbers, the laments that are similar are placed in columns. There are 7 rows and they are called periods. The zigzag line seoarets metals from non- metals, exect from hydrogen.
