Poland and Hungary fought for independence. During the Hungarian Revolution of 1848-49, the Polish Legion fought. The leader of the 1848 revolution was Polish general József Bem, a Polish and Hungarian national hero.

20th century
In July 1920, the Hungarian Government Prime Minister, Pál Teleki, decided to provide support to Poland at a critical point in the war by providing free military supplies at its own expense.
Thanks to huge support from Hungary, Poland defeated the Bolsheviks in the Battle of Warsaw in 1920 and saved Europe against communist expansion.
