The model of the atom
JJ Thompson
JJ Thompson's plum pudding model was created after he discovered the electron. His plum pudding model suggested that the atom is like a plum pudding. The dough is the ball of positive charge and the currents are the electrons
Ernest Rutherford
Rutherford's nuclear model was created after he fired a beam of alpha particles at thin metal foil. Most of the particles passed through the foil but some bounced back toward the source. This suggested that the atom is made up of empty space

Radiation
Absorb radiation
When atoms absorb electromagnetic radiation, electrons move to a higher energy level further away than the nucleus
When atoms emit radiation, electrons can drop to a lower energy level, closer to the nucleus
