Sights of Lika
Northern Velebit National Park
The park is intersected by numerous hiking trails, the most famous of which is the Premužić trail.
The area of the park is 109 km².
The House of Velebit in Krasno is a center for visitors to the Northern Velebit National Park. The "House of Velebit" exhibition spreads over four floors and includes several thematic units that are intertwined and intertwined in order to better show visitors the richness of Velebit, its diversity and cultural and natural value.
It is the largest, oldest and most visited Croatian national park. It is a wooded mountain area with 16 lakes of different sizes, filled with crystal blue-green water. The lakes get their water from numerous rivers and streams, and are interconnected by cascades and waterfalls.

According to legend, two sisters lived. When their father died, he left them a legacy of the land we call Lika and Krbava today. The sick sister traveled everywhere looking for a cure for her illness. So she came to Ribnik, a village near today's Gospić, got thirsty and drank water, so her health improved. She sees that the water is doing her good and that the medicine is called Medicinal Water by Lika, and after the water the whole country she inherited got the name Lika.
Others claim that the name Lika is related to ancient times and that it originated from the Latin word "lacus" meaning lake.
According to another interpretation, the name comes from the Greek word "likos", which means wolf.
Lika is a historical region in the southwest of the central part of Croatia, with an area of about 5,000 km2. The largest city in the region is Gospić

Lika is a mountainous region or plateau, surrounded by mountain ranges; Velebit in the south, Velika Kapela in the west, Mala Kapela in the north and Lička Plješivica in the east. The northern border is quite vague because the Ogulin-Plašćanska valley forms a transitional area between Lika and Gorski Kotar.
Croatian sinkholes, the river Gacka, the river Lika, the river Otuča, the river Krbava, the river Korenica (river) flow through Lika, and the river Una springs in Lika, which flows through its eastern part only in the upper course.
It has great strategic and traffic significance because it forms the junction of the continental and coastal part of Croatia, therefore Lika is also called the "Spine of Croatia".
