Manhattan is an island that is 21.5 km long and 3.7 km wide ,it is also the most famous part of New York.In 1626 when Algonquin Indians sold Manhattan to a Dutchman Peter Minuit,he built some houses and renamed Manhattan to New Amsterdam.When British took over they named it New York.In hope for a better life many people started living in New York

New York has parts called Chinatown and Little Italy,these parts of New York are famous for their food.In New York it is easy to find your way around,you can get to the other side city by taking the famous Subway or one of the 11,000 taxi´s. Some people don´t like New York because they think people are tense and that New York is too dangerous,you shouldn´t carry a lot of money on you and you shouldn`t travel or walk alone.

The Statue of Liberty is one of the most famous symbols of New York.In 1886 the French people gave this statue as a gift to the Americans.The torch in Lady Liberty´s hand is a symbol of hope.
