SAFETY
-
-
-
Safety begins with the feeling that you have a right to occupy space, and to be comfortable in doing so
-
INNOVATION
WE ARE NEVER FINISHED PRINCIPLE
We should constantly redesign public spaces based on community needs, current circumstances
-
Freedom
Mobility: most current methods are focusing on "assemble" idea of Jan Gehl, which creates order and interaction. However, this sense order causes increasing concentration and possibility of interaction of people at different rate of awareness. and may cause problems in this uncertain time.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT AREAS: Bus Stops, MRT, Taxi Stands.
Current most used mode of transport is a mass public transport
-
-
The idea of Public TOD, is inviting MORE people into a smaller space, this is a notion that is useful for a community in a good time but in time of uncertainty it is more of a threat
Taxi Stand, Mall entrances
Mobility of using Ride Hailing Apps
Grab, Gojek, Uber, allows unprecedented possibility of infection where unknown strangers share the same space
-
Waiting areas should be dispersed instead of concentrated in a 'taxi stand' to prevent accidental spread.
PARKS, PCN, Pathways:
Mobility Cycling and Walking
During the current period more people actually walks, when people walk while wearing mask the spread is pretty controlled
Different rate of spreads with different type of mobility, Cycling without mask may spread at least 7 meters behind leaving a possibility heightened infection rate.
Privacy: public spaces with methods that segregate traffic ie wet market even - odd segregation allows for reduced interaction between people.
-
Health: Health freedom means the idea of being free from medicine. The current measures have allowed lesser people to be infected by others. the current measures like closing most shopping malls, allows the idea of 'repel' of Jan Gehl in which discourage people to visit certain areas. creating a safer space.
We need to rethink spaces which takes account the possibility of infection out of a pandemic or even a common infectious diseases
-
-
-
Negative effects of long-term cooping at home, hence would be better in the long-term if public spaces can still be used during pandemics

Against Stuff
-
Surveillance
-
-
life quality, how to invite yet to limit the number of people
-
-
Space Planning
new potential
effectiveness of the space, allow active engagement
-
dual purpose space, adapted to potential new normal
-
-
-
-
"slower" response
need to study the impact of public space for a better and well thought out resolution for the situation
oversight on the issues, could snowball into a larger / more serious problem in the future.
-
-
Public spaces need to be totally redefined, carefully planned, and under surveillance (e.g using tech) to create a safe city and harmonious society
