Types of rocks
Metamorphic
The heat rising up from the core and the gravity pressure pressing down combine and create so much pressure that metamorphic rocks form.
-
Sedimentary
Sedimentary rocks are formed by sediments (sand, dirt, gravel) all being crushed by the sediments piling on top of them. The sediments get squeezed so hard that they become rock.
-
Examples of sedimentary rocks: flint, sandstone, siltstone.
Fossils are formed when animal bones get buried by the layering sediments. Therefore the older the fossil, the deeper it is.
When sedimentary rocks are heated and turned back into magma, they may spew out a volcano and harden to become igneous rocks.
