Location: running along the shore of the deep, S-shaped Lake Wakatipu. The road links the towns of Queenstown, on the shore of the lake, set against the dramatic Southern Alps and Glenorchy, at the northern end of the lake.

Description: The road follows the eastern edge of Lake Wakatipu, so you’ll mostly enjoy the mountains on the western side of the lake and as you get closer to Glenorchy, see Pig and Pigeon Islands in the middle of Lake Wakatipu.

length: 46.3 km

stopping points: One of the best places to stop between Queenstown and Glenorchy is Bob's Cove. It's a short hike a stunning beach, but if you have the time you should climb up to the nearby lookout for an incredible view.

Location: Between Westport and Greymouth in the south island.

Description: The longest single highway in the country carves a track from the northeast of the South Island down the West Coast, across the Alps and then all the way to the bottom, pretty much. That's a big road in a small land. It has breath taking sights that are must sees when exploring the south island.

length: 100km

Stopping points: Just along the road there is another breath taking sight thats called the pancake rocks
