Hegelian Dialectics
Dynamic interplay. Research allows things to advance. Standards are based on the best knowledge. Standards "change" because theory advances.
Starts with a thesis. For example: Theory X → people are unmotivated and unintelligent (Taylorism). Primary motivation is monetary. This is coercion.
Then comes the antithesis. Theory Y → people are motivated and intelligent (McGregor Bias). Aligning employee's goals with organization's goals. Uses employee's need for fulfillment as motivator. This is persuasion.
Then comes the synthesis which combines both the thesis & antithesis. Theory Z → people are both (Schein). Key idea of reciprocity and working relationships. This is coercive persuasion.
