Both America and the USRR had powerful armies
America possessed the atomic bomb
There was an absence of a powerful military neighbor for both the USA and the USSR.
To deny another case of aggression like Germany's the USSR and USA had to fill the void of power and be the peacekeeping powers.
No other country could rival the two superpowers
Political
The war secured the survival of Commnism
The victory of the USSR justified communism
Encouraged other countries to follow the same system
Other powerful countries no longer had the vast influence of their empires( Britain , France , Germany, Japan)
USA imposed its democratic values on the west
USA wanted to push for democracy
The USSR wanted to impose communism on other countries
Economic
The USA had a dominant role in the world's economy
USA's economy was still stable in spite of the war
Many countries relied on the USA for financial support
The American economy could out produce all other great powers together
the USSR's economy wasn't in totally destroyed
Both had large amount of factories
