Rutheford's Atomic Model - Coggle Diagram
Rutheford's Atomic Model
Experiment
golden foil experiment
mimicking the idea of an atom
thin sheets around golden foil that contained live and moving alpha particles
studied the trajectory of the α-particles after interaction with the thin sheet of gold
contradicted the previous plum pudding model of the atom
Observations
some of the α-particles were deflected by the gold sheet by very small angles
positive charge in an atom is not uniformly distributed
positive charge in an atom
concentrated in a very small volume
Limitations
could not explain stability of an atom
not in accordinance with Maxwell's theory
nothing about the arrangment of atoms
Rutherford's Atomic Model
Atom
tiny, dense, positively charged core
(nuclues)
all mass is concentrated around the light
negative consituents
electrons
electrons circulate around the nucleus
orbiting
force of attraction
