COMMUNITY LANGUAGE LEARNING
ROOTS OF CLL
Charles Curran, an American Jesuit priest who was working as the Counseling Learning, invented the method while he was working on the Loyola University in Chicago.
WHAT IS CLL?
Curran accepted that language theory has to start and end with criteria regarding sound, sentences and abstract models of language. The CLL method has teachers act as the language counselor or translator during language learning.
CLL DIVISIONS
DESIGN
-Types of learning and teaching activities:
Most of the activities of this method have different variations like: Translation, Transcription, Listening and Conversation.
-Learners Role:
They learn through interactions with members of the community. This is not viewed as an individual accomplishment but as
something you achieve through working together.
-Syllabus:
is most often used in the teaching of oral proficiency, but with some alterations it may be used in the teaching of writing
-Teachers Role:
Their role is to respond calmly and in a supportive manner, and help the student try to understand his or her problems better by applying the best technique for them.
-Role of Instructional Materials:
Materials may be developed by the teacher as the course requires him o her to do so, although these generally consist of little more than summaries or essays.

The CLL method is about social interaction. The teacher uses all of the materail to transfer the knowledge.
