inheritance
variation - range of characteristics in a group
gene - a section of DNA that controls the inherited feature
competition- struggle for survival
Natural selection- characteristics passed on for generation to generation, and become more common
biodiversity - variation of different species in an area
endangered - a species that is at risk of disappearing
extinct- a species that no longer exists in an area
gene bank- a store of genetic material
ecosystem- a natural habitat and all of the living things in it.
general
identical twins
the egg divides into two halves. There is no reason why or when the egg splits – it is a random occurance
. The split usually occurs within the first 12 day of growth.
gene banks
plant material seeds
animal tissue and/or DNA
store of genetic material
group 1 - alkalai
sodium
potassium
lithium
rubidium
francium
DNA- dioxiribonucleicacid
RNA
Ribonucleicacid
DNA Double helix
Crick and Watson
A always paired with T, and C always paired with G
nucleus
The nucleus of every cell contains genetic information, which is arranged into chromosomes. These are thread like strands made of a chemical called DNA – this is short for Deoxyribonucleic acid
mass extincions
There have been 5 mass extinctions – the most drastic, the K/T extinction caused 96& of all
species to die. Life on earth has descended from the 4% of species that survived this event
The K/T mass extinction (named so because it occurred between the Cretaceous and Tertiary periods)
Other Scientists believe that the extinction was more gradual and that climate change over time led to the demise of the
dinosaurs
extinctions can be caused by something new being suddenly introduced into the population, i.e, a new disease, a new predator, a change in physical environment, i.e, climate change
