Descartes' Meditations - Stoyan Kadiev
How can he confirm God's existense?
Perfection includes existence
Truths are independent of the thinker
The ideas of God are the only ideas that imply his existence
The idea is innate
What can Descartes not doubt?
Every truth has come from his senses
When we are dreaming we also think what we perceive is the truth
God would not deceive him because that will mean he is not perfect
An evil demon is tricking him
By doubting everything he can be sure not to fall for the demon's lies
God is able to make physical objects
Using the differences between understanding and imagination he confirms the existence of those objects
Since God is not a deceiver the independent material objects he has created are real
How is there room for error if God is perfect?
Humans are between the two extremes of nothingness and good purity
Error is possible because it is the absence of what is correct
Humans have limited knowledge so we can not understand everything that God is doing
He is his independent creature because he can think
Our existence has a purpose
