COMMUNITY REMEDIATION Causes & Effects
Environmental
Natural Disasters
Biological
Pandemics cause tremendous impacts on all societies as diseases are often indiscriminate.
Colonialism kills many indigenous members through foreign pathogens the community are not immune too. White settles brought diseases to the indigenous Australians such as the flu and common cold which decimated the population.
#
The Coronavirus pandemic has reduced our quality of life and community vitality. It is not a time for social gathering despite us being social creatures.
#
Hydro-meteorological
These entail tornadoes, hurricanes, avalanches, droughts, flooding, bushfires etc.
Geological
Geological disasters include earthquakes, landslides and volcanic eruptions.
Natural disasters maim and kill members of the community. They displace communities and destroy homes. Loss of financial resources and migration to lesser-developed regions occur. The infrastructural damage poses social and psychological damage due to mainly financial loss. Unfortunately people who exist in disaster prone areas are frequently effected.

Mental illness is a common issue that affects our modern community. One in five Australians aged 16-85 experience mental illness in any given year. It affects a communities quality of life due a lack of productivity, passion and inspiration.
Mental illness has become less taboo with more remediation techniques and funding to combat this issue.
Mental Illness is common within marginalised communities.
These entail ethnic minority groups particularly aboriginal Australians. The LGBT community and other non-conforming groups suffer. Young adults and middle-aged members of society are susceptible to mental health dilemmas.
Political
War
War creates armed conflict and rifts between various nations and communities.
Wars can be civil or international. Either or they create mass destruction.
Wars are politically motivated. They tend to arise through one nations wish to exploit or control other. Reasons of war vary.
War slows down progression but also removes any sense of freedom and leisure as fighting and surviving becomes a top priority.
Communities are affected by injury and death of many of their members and are mourned for a long period of time. Some communities never fully pass the grieving stage
Genocide
A total of 250 million people have perished through genocide in the 20th century.
Genocide is the purposeful killing of a mass group of people, particularly a race of and other smaller ethnic groups.
These massacres destroy the vitality of a communities as their population alarmingly declines. Less members of a particular community struggle to share and pass on their traditional practices and customs.
In 1824 colonialists were authorised to shoot and kill aborigines. In 1828 it became martial law through the governor. The indigenous Australian population was estimated at 250,000 before the white settlers arrived and dwindled to 60,000 after the massacres. There are only 47,000 full blooded aborigines left currently with some mixed members.
The decline of many ancestors and members have diminished the knowledge and traditions of the land. The native languages, knowledge of medicines and other practices begin to dwindle and become lost.

Physical maiming and psychological pain are directly and indirectly caused by violence and catastrophe. These two are life-changing and strain a community or individual for life.
Post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, suicide, somatization and intense grief are common psychological effects.

Death of family members can lead to children becoming orphaned. Those who become orphaned are stripped away from their identity and need to assimilate into their new reality and environment

Too much capitalism can create vast inequalities and exploit consumers
#
Capitalism is associated with large amounts of waste, high emissions and environmental damage.
Wage Disparity
Wage discrepancies can occur when various positions of workers receive vastly different pay even if they all conduct similar amounts of work. Often CEOs and other higher up positions are payed vastly more than their staff.
Indentured Pay
This problem is described as unfairly paying staff well below minimum wage. This lingering problem makes the poverty cycle perpetual as workers seem to have no other option.
Unfair labour targets poor families or individuals especially young kids through awful working conditions in terms of cleanliness and hours.
Migrant workers are also exploited
