Direct control heavily relied on the European powers , in most cases, taking fool control over the management of the country as they viewed the Africans as unable to handle running a country. Through this they developed paternalism, which was where the Europeans governed in a paternal way by providing for the natives' needs but not giving them any rights. They didn't train local people in the European method of governing and instead just brought their own rules. This can be seen through countries like England absolutely decimating the native populations within America and bringing in their own governments. In most cases, the people living in these countries would adopt the culture of the country that colonized them, as seen in the French's control over countries like the Congo and Lebanon, etc.
