Europe was coming from the industrial revolution meaning they had better technology to conquer the land with such as guns and steam boats
European influence was weaker in the 15th and 16th centuries in Asia and Africa compared to the 18th and 19 centuries.

It was the invasion, occupation, division, and colonisation of African territory by European powers
It happened during a short period known to historians as the New Imperialism (between 1881 and 1914).

At the Berlin Conference, the European colonial powers scrambled to gain control over the interior of the continent
At the time of the conference, only the coastal areas of Africa were colonized by the European powers.
