The Science Of Neglect by Ain, Hannie, Nabila and Zafirah T16
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
-
1)Serve and return interactions are when the children “serve” by cooing/crying and the adults “return the serve” with expressions and similar vocals
2)”Serve and return”shapes the architecture of the developing brain and can affect the formation of neural connections and circuitry of the brain
3)if the adults responses are unreliable or absent, it can affect the childs development

TOXIC STRESS
1) knowing the needs
of the neglected through:
- spreading relevant new scientific research
- support partnerships between community & educarers
- identify who are neglected and supporting government/social services to help these children
2) Sign up for intervention/prevention programmes:
- intervention helps children to be life-long leaners to achieve positive outcomes & contribute productively to their communities
- Social services can help identify the ones that are vulnerable and intervene to help them
- Neglect can be caused by different factors like: parents with addiction, mental health problems etc..
- Hence, different factors need different services that caters to the children's problem
- According to Science, caregivers can impose toxic stress (neglect) on children by having lack of concern frequently towards them.
- affect brain structure/stress response which causes > long-term problems in comprehending, behaviour, physical & mental health.
- The progression in Science enables children to be examined for approaches to the identification, prevention, reduction of neglect/ consequences in childhood years

-
- irregular or less attention but in a responsive environment
- under growth-caring conditions
- no action needed
- occurring constantly where child's responsiveness & developmental capabilities is not as evident
- rate of development is hindered which is caused by an array of factors
- Quality care by caregivers and them knowing the needs of that particular child
