living things need air, water and food in order to survive
many living things will die quickly without air and water. they can survive for a short period without food
non living things do not need air, water and food
living things can grow. as they grow, their shape, sizes and appearance may change

living things will eventually die when they become old and their body parts fail to work
living things will also die when they fall very sick, do not have enough air, water and food or eaten up by other living things
