Soil as a Resource
Classification of Soil:
- Laterite Soil
- Arid Soil
- Forest Soil
- Alluvial Soil
- Black soil
- Red and Yellow Soil
Soil Erosion and Soil Conservation - Removal of top soil is soil erosion. Intense Farming , Grazing , construction activities and other human activities with deforestation have led to soil erosion. Soil conservation can be done by afforestation , terrace farming etc.
Land Utilization
Land not under cultivation - Barren and Waste land put to non- agricultural uses. e.g. buildings and factories.
Fallow Lands - left without cultivation for one or less than one agricultural year , and left uncultivated for 1 to 5 years.

Other uncultivated area - permanent pastures and grazing land , land under miscellaneous tree crops groves , culturable waste land.
Net Sown Area - area sown more than once in an agricultural year plus net sown area is gross cropped area.

Types of Resources
On basis of Origin
Biotic resources - these are resources which originate from biosphere. some examples are flora and fauna.

On basis of Ownership
Individual Resources - these are resources owned by private individuals. e.g. plot , land and houses.
community owned resources - these are resources owned by as group of people. some examples are parks , picnic spots and well.
National Resources - these are resources belonging to a whole nation., some e.g. are canal , dams and railways.
